The Congress on International and European Law was held in National University “Odessa Law Academy”

At National University “Odessa Law Academy” the Second Congress on International and European Law was opened, bringing together legal scientists working in this field. Within two days, representatives of 26 universities in Ukraine, Europe, Asia and the US discussed the most topical issues of implementation of Association Agreement and the further development of relations between Ukraine and the European Union. It should be noted that for the first time international congress of this level was held in Ukraine on the initiative of the President of the National University “Odessa Law Academy” Sergei Kivalov last year. Besides, National University “Odessa Law Academy” is a member of the European Association of Universities, the European Public Law Organization, the Association of European Law Schools, the Institute of European Law and the Association of Contemporary European Studies.

The panel discussions of the Congress include consideration of important issues of harmonization of national and European legislation and development of the lack of mechanisms for its implementation on the territory of Ukraine. Issues of the development of the internal law of the European Union, the problems of reforming the EU were also mentioned.

Our congress on international and European law is held for the second time within the walls of National University "Odessa Law Academy". This event is becoming traditional. I'll tell you information in numbers: we received more than 100 theses of authors from various continents – America, Europe, Asia. This indicates that our forum is known in different countries and if we calculate the number of foreign and non-resident participants, then more than 60 people came from different countries and cities of Ukraine. We managed to discuss 2 blocks of issues, and we hope to finish the work tomorrow. It is a great sign that all the participants take an active part in the discussions, that demonstrates their high interest and motivation, as well as high level of work of our congress. We hope that next year our university will become a platform for discussion of the most important issues of international and European law. Practically all the schools of European law in Ukraine are represented here, in particular, the Lviv, Kiev and Kharkov law schools are represented, those who deal with issues of international and European comparative law of Turkey, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Germany. Even US scientists specially arrived for two days. This is a reason of special pride for us. Those who did not participate personally responded and sent their abstracts, which were included in the 400-page collection of theses published by Congress. This is the recognition of scientific traditions, which are laid down by the Odessa Law School. Speaking about the scientific component of the Congress, it has a number of directions: European Union law, adaptation of Ukraine's legislation to European standards, the attitude of international, European and national law, which has great practical importance for Ukraine and the Council of Europe law. And Ukraine has been a member of the Council of Europe for a long period of time, – said Hashmatullah Bekhrouz, head of the Department of International Law and International Relations.

The speakers of the congress are professors of the departments of international law of Ukrainian and foreign universities. The current issues of Brexit, the further development of relations between Ukraine and the European Union were actively discussed.

I really love National University "Odessa Law Academy". That's why I keep coming back. The paper I presented here today, addresses the problem of nationalism. This is an important issue for many countries of the European Union, - mentioned American trial lawyerJan Seigel.

Next year, the congress on International and European law will traditionally take place in National University “Odessa Law Academy”. Such events are a platform for the exchange of experience between scientists from around the world and help to explore global international problems.
